This is my first official entry into a series I’m going to call: The Geek Girl Diaries.
I’m a geek girl. I’m also a writer, a teacher, and a young latina woman. I created this site to share my work, discuss comics and fictional media, create my own projects, and connect with others who share the same passion as me.
Next I branched out and wrote for
The Young Folks once again with a focus on news media and entertainment. I wrote one of my favorite pieces there,
Why Captain America Doesn’t Have to Be a Jerk to be Interesting. If you’ve seen
this 30k quote floating around that’s from my article. And boy was the response flattering! Now that I’ve grown as a writer I’ll most likely be driving more into the cynicism that surrounds superheroes as I did with this piece. There’s still so much to say on the subject!
I currently write for
Women Write About Comics and honestly, this is where I want to stay. The women on the site, my fellow writers and editors, are amazing. I’ve grown leaps and bounds in the few months I’ve been working with them. They’re encouraging, welcoming, and a smart group of diverse women. This site is a site I want to write for. The fact I can write a piece such as:
Another Day Another White Guy At Marvel, discussing in detail the problem with whitewashing in Hollywood is, well, a marvel in itself. The fact we have pieces on the site such as:
Disappointment Again: Batgirl #37 is Transphobic written by an actual transwoman, the lovely
Rachel Stevens, just makes me proud to be a part of the site. Along with my Editor-in-Chief
Megan Purdy and Assistant Editor
Claire Napier.
I’ve got some independent projects I’m working on alongside my work for WWAC. My goal is to continue growing as a writer, discuss comics from the perspective of a latina woman, and help others who want to get into comics and genre fictional media.
I’ve always loved helping others drive into the world of comics, but it can be hard if you don’t have a life jacket. There’s decades of stuff to go through and why read or watch junk if you don’t have to? So look forward to my comic resource posts, infographics and videos!
I’m also a geek girl so expect discussion on makeup - especially geek inspired makeup and cosplay. I’m going to attempt to learn how to sew so I can do some of my dream cosplays!
For more about me and my writing, you can check out
my portfolio that features some of my best received pieces to date, along with
my Writing Profilepage. For more about lil 4’11 me you can check out
my About Me page. Finally if you’re interested, don’t hesitate to follow any of my social media accounts. I have a
facebook page,
a pinterest,
a linkined, I even have
an instagram that mainly features pictures of my roommates cat and my superhero t-shirts.
And this has been entry #1 of the Geek Girl Diaries!
